A Sleepless Night, Project B’s Room Begins, The Sale & For Sale

holliecooperinteriorsUncategorizedLeave a Comment

Last night sleep was not so good. I awoke at 1:00am & my mind began to go a million miles an hour, thinking of a few things that have been weight heavily on my mind as of late. As the time kept on ticking and I was still awake, I was getting so frustrated. When did life get so complicated, remember when we were kids & life was so fun & carefree – I’d like it to be like that again.
All I wanted to do was sleep, but I proceeded to lay awake until 4:30am, that’s the last time I looked at the clock, anyways.

But on a happier note. Yesterday was a productive day, Project B’s room officially began.

B’s walls were laid out to get it ready for the installation of all of the mouldings. Their going up today.
 I took down all of the pictures and filled the gazillion holes. You see I have a problem when it comes to hanging pictures – I don’t measure I just stick a nail in the wall & if I don’t like how it looks I take the nail out and hammer it in the right spot – So I had LOTS of holes to fill.
I also emptied B’s closet & removed all of the white wire shelving filled in those holes and painted it. If you remember for my “25 Things” I detest painting like a sickness but I will do anything for my B:) The kids & I went to the local Home Depot & got the centre tower & some pretty crystal knobs for the new open concept closet.
The drapery for B’s room looks amazing too! I painted my Intertwine pattern in pink on white linen and large black pom poms are going down the sides – it’s a little more, shall I say florescent, that I anticipated but still – I die! Sorry no sneak peek of this you gotta wait.
Her new ceiling fixture arrived – a faux bamboo pagoda – from Smith & Vine, it’ll get sprayed a nice glossy pink.

I also have a little addition to the room & yes it does involve a paintbrush, darn it! I’m looking forward to the finished result cuz I know B’s gonna love it! – I’ll give you a hint – dipped legs!

Just a reminder that my shop

is having a 65% off Sale it ends in 5 days. Use coupon code CLEAROUT65

25 Things You Don’t KNow About Me #5 – Abby from Abby M Interiors

holliecooperinteriorsUncategorized1 Comment

Happy Tuesday!
The fam & I had a really nice weekend, it was full of parties with friends & family with a cold drink in hand. Saturday was a surprise 50th / family reunion pool party, my kids were in heaven, spending 5 1/2 hours playing in the pool.

Sunday was spent at another birthday party for my bestie neighbour friend, let me just say that we had a total blast, singing and dancing in the kitchen until 1am. Thankfully my kids spent the night at their Nana’s house.

This heat & humidity has been insane, it makes me want a pool – kinda.

It’s Tuesday so that means another installment of  “25 Things” & I am thrilled to have Abby from
 here to share her list of things we don’t know about her.
I began reading Abby’s blog after first following stalking her on InstagramAbby hails from Michigan and creates beautiful, colourful & welcoming interiors. Go over and check out her projects, they will not disappoint.
Take it away Abby…..
Hi All!  Thanks so much for having me.  I’m a huge fan of Hollie and everything she creates.  I have four of her pillows in my living room and I’m currently obsessed with her hand-painted drapes.  Have you seen how amazing they look?  The girl has skills! I’m thrilled to be part of Hollie’s series.  Enjoy!
  1. I’m a total procrastinator.  Just ask Hollie!
  2. I was afraid being a designer when I ‘grew-up’ would disappoint my parents, so I got my degree in International Relations.  The upside is that I learned how to write because they were preparing us for law school.  Who knew blogging and interior design would go so well together in the future?
  3. I wrestled my way into interior design anyhow.
  4. I’m from a super small town in northeastern Michigan and was lucky enough to live on the beach.
  5. I could see Lake Huron out my window.  Of course I never appreciated that until I was older and out of the house.
  6. My parents let me be an exchange student twice during high school: once to Brazil and once to Spain.  Now that I have my own children I have no idea how they let me go.
  7. I grew-up going to MSU football games, I’m a spartan alumni, and both of my boys are totally obsessed with all things Michigan State.
  8. I met my husband after a Michigan State football game.  After dinner he got on one knee to tie his shoe, and I was so sure we would be married that I *almost* said, “You don’t have to propose yet!”. Nine months later we were engaged.
  9. Everyone told us we were too young.  They were right. 😉
  10. My husband and I are both only children.
  11. We both missed having siblings and were determined to have more than one child.  Thankfully we have two boys!
  12. My husband and I were both in the same city in Brazil at the same time, seven years before we ever met.
  13. We are total opposites.  He’s a spreadsheet/money saver type and I tend to think we ‘need’ everything. 😉
  14. We moved into a 70’s ranch two years ago and I have no desire to go back to a two-story home.
  15. I’m guessing it’s another five years before we’re even close to making all the changes we’d like to our ranch.
  16. My great-great Aunt Tinsy ( yep, Tinsy) was an interior designer and the exterior of her home was painted turquoise.  I like to think we share a connection.
  17. I was a dancer.  No poles were involved, but tap shoes, pointe shoes, and jazz shoes were pulled out of my dance bag numerous times a week.
  18. Speaking of high school–I was president of my class.  Oh yeah! It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.  But you do get to plan the 10 year reunion!
  19. My youngest son is the ultimate snuggle-monster.  Last night he grabbed my face in his hands and called me his sweet mommy.  He can turn my heart to mush.
  20. My oldest is an entertainer type.  He’ll do anything to get a laugh, even if that means breaking the rules.
  21. I love cooking almost as much as design.  To me they are two sides of the same coin.  Both are an art, of sorts, and after a bit of work you really get to enjoy what you’ve created and share it with other people.
  22. I’ve read two books this year that have caused me to change the way I live my life:Bread & Wine by Shauna Niequist and The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin.  After reading them I quit my Bunco group, started a Cooking Club with my blogging friend Jill, sing more to my kids, and finally invited my neighbors over for dinner instead of always chatting in the driveway.
  23. I confess that I’m part of a Bachelor/Bachelorette Facebook group with a ton of fun friends.  The show is SO much better when you can be slightly catty with your friends. It’s like live tweeting on crack.
  24. I never thought I’d like Instagram.  Turns out that it’s my social media of choice.  I’m.  Totally.  Addicted.
  25. I still pinch myself that I get to work a job that I love and people pay me!  I will never take that for granted.
Thanks Hollie!

Abby thanks so much for participating. I can totally relate to being IG addicted!

Have an awesome day ya’ll!

A Mixed Bag

Yesterday Alex over at Things That Sparkle showed a sneak peak of her powder room & holy hell the wallpaper is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G & the lucite legs on that vanity are pretty sweet too!
This dynamite paper is from Lindsay Cowles, I must get my hands on some of what they offer, they’ll knock you socks off!

~~~~~~~~~~
One of my favorite shelter mags is House Beautiful. So, I was happy to see it in my mailbox yesterday just waiting for me to take in all it’s goodness. I was drawn to this little 800 sq ft Manhattan apartment, that was designed by Ashley Whittaker. Back in the day, my single self would have loved this, it’s feminine, but not frilly.
The Hanna chairs by Oly sing perfection in pink with navy gimp and silver nail heads.
This end of the living room acts as a office space and the bar cart is ready to entertain.
Osbourne & Little Maharani wallpaper in this colour way is full of life.
Rose Cumming Zebrine wall covering in Navy is a fresh take
on an animal print.
~~~~~~~~~~

I was having a heck of a time trying to figure out the whole surface applied mounding layout for B’s room, but I sat down yesterday afternoon & did it. I am the type who has to do everything by hand first, so after many, many, many rolled up pieces of paper her is what I decided on.

~~~~~~~~~~
A few girlfriends & I have taken up Yoga as a form of exercise/activity & the whole social aspect is quite alluring too! We are up to 3 x’s a week & my current gym apparel is Ok, but to be honest I just want a few new things cause if I’m going to sweat I want to at least look cute doing it!
So I’ve made a list of what I’d like to add to my current repitoire.
25 Things You Don’t Know About Me #4 – Christine of Bijou & Boheme
holliecooperinteriorsUncategorized8 Comments
It’s Tuesday so that means another edition of:
25 Things You Don’t know About Me
 Today I am please to have my very talented friend Christine of Bijou & Boheme sharing her 25.
 In a few short years Christine has made her mark & things are stating to pay off big time!
B & B is always full to the brim with lots of amazing eye candy & inspiration. I ‘m sure many will be curious about Christine’s 25.
Without further ado…
~~~~~~~~~~

1. I used to be a grade 3 homeroom/art teacher…and before that I wanted to be a psychologist

2. I was born on the 7th day of the 7th month and weighed 7 pounds and 7 ounces…consider 7s super duper lucky
3. Our family has 6 members…you now know how I like 7s…pretty sure my husband will divorce me if he reads this
4. I have slight OCD tendencies- can’t leave the house with the beds unmade or things lying around on the floor…a sink full of dishes is totally acceptable to my brain though
5. I was born in Vancouver (and lived there twice,) grew up mostly in Ontario but consider PEI to be the place where my heart is the happiest
6. My eldest daughter Natasha was actually my student way back in 2002…I was her teacher the year her mother passed away…a few years later, her dad took me out to thank me for all the extra time I had spent with her and shortly after that, we got married…I legally adopted my sweeet big girl shortly after that and now, we’re one big happy family
7. I’m pretty sure that I’ve been dehydrated for at least the last 20 years…my daily drink routine basically goes coffee, decaf coffee, sip of something, glass of wine
8. Watching streamed TV on my computer is basically my life
9. I have weirdly small hands and feet- people are often surprised that I can balance on the nubs I call toes
10. I had red hair until I was about 7…so hoping my daughter’s actually stays put
11. Chocolate has to be stored in the freezer as far as I’m concerned…frozen white chocolate Lindor balls are responsible for at least 5 of the pounds I want to loose
12. I hate zoos…the caged up chimps always make me feel like humans suck
13. The only thing I hate more than zoos is guns…loathe everything about them with a fiery passion
14. Speaking of hate, I hate the word hate…and the word moist for that matter…love, love, love comeuppance though
15. I’ve never really been religious but have been in the room with both my Nana and my mother-in-law when they passed away and am pretty damn sure that when you die, you really do float away to a better place
16. A caricature artist once asked my husband to  list all of our common interests and we literally couldn’t come up with a single damn thing- we are total and complete opposites
17. My daughter recently bought me a N’espresso machine and I now literally fantasize about my morning coffee as I’m drifting off to sleep…before getting the machine, I thought instant coffee was totally awesome- my friends almost dis-owned me for this
18. Kelly Wearstler is my number one giant girl crush…everything she touches is magic sauce in my eyes
19. I haven’t traveled nearly enough…which probably has something to do with the next point…
20. I absolutely adore being bored
21. I’m supercalafragalistic sentimental
22. When drying my hair, I always close my right eye- so weird
23. I have wicked awesome control of my top lip…have a bunch of party tricks related to my ability to snarl well
24. I envy artists who can really draw/paint more than anyone- so jealous of other people’s artistic talents
25. My family is like 8th generation Canadian, which I find pretty awesome…unfortunately, this lineage also
means that me and the kids have skin that’s so white, it pretty much glows in the dark
~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks for sharing Christine!
Happy Canada Day!
holliecooperinteriorsUncategorizedLeave a Comment
Good Morning &
I know promised some Canadian talent & the progress of B’s painted drapery fabric but, to be honest this weekend has flown by at light speed. I will give you some of the above later this week.
I found this wonderful watercolour from Poppy & Pinecone on Etsy. There are so many prints to choose from & are either countries or provinces & they come in a large range of colour.
I think that these would be a great addition to any cottage.
We are off for a day of celebrations by the lake with friends & maybe some fireworks, if the kiddies can stay up for another late night!
See you tomorrow with Christine from Bijou & Boheme with her “25 Thing you Don’t Know About Me”.
Re-Thinking B’s Room
holliecooperinteriorsUncategorizedLeave a Comment
One of the hardest things I find about designing a space for my own home is that I am so indecisive. I think it’s because we, as designers are exposed to so much & the options are endless, so it makes it hard to choose sometimes. For a client I have the main direction pretty much set from the get go & stick very close to it but, when it comes to my own home, I flip flop like a fish out of water.
I began pulling together all of the pieces for B’s room & found myself questioning the plan. So, I went back to the drawing board as they say & I have come up with something even better. There is no turning back cuz stuff has been purchased/ordered.
In recently months I have painted my Intertwine pattern as drapery for clients, if your unfarmiliar it looks like this – KW inspired.
As I’m painting away B always says how much she likes it, but she would choose pink instead, Benjamin Moore Deep Carnation to be exact! So creamy white linen drapery with pink lines, was my new jumping off point.
The walls are getting some surface applied mouldings and EVERYTHING is being painted Benjamin Moore Oxford White.
Gold polka dots will adorn the ceiling.
These 2 fun prints will get large white mattings & satin gold frames.
This faux bamboo Pagoda lovlieness will hang from the ceiling
I also hope to paint a small round table & 2 chairs that are currently in the playroom, so she can enjoy tea parties in her room & they will get painted Benjamin Moore Whirlpool CC-910
We are one step closer to getting all of the components for the closet transformation, when it’s complete it will look something like this.
Brass rods will happen but, do I do crystal pulls or sleek satin gold pulls?
I will spend tomorrow painting the drapery fabric, so Monday I will give a little sneak peek.
Monday is also Canada Day, so in honour of this fine Country I will highlight some Canadian goodness.
Have lovely weekend friends:)
